Executive Director's Corner

February…the traditional month of candy and love. While the “guy on the street” may think in terms of a heart-shaped box and a favorite sweetheart, our Camp Fire circle is thinking in terms of the final weeks of the annual candy sale and collecting troop candy in particular. The effort our council makes to remember U.S. soldiers is one of the best service projects Camp Fire kids do all year. So, I encourage our candy sellers to continue to share that option with customers. Let's exceed last year’s shipment of nearly 4,500 boxes given to troops!

Another of Camp Fire’s service projects…and one of the oldest…the Salute to Hospitalized Veterans also occurs in February. Hundreds of hand-decorated Valentines will be delivered to men and women in Veterans’ Hospitals both locally and across the nation. Year after year we hear the stories of those special moments when a young Camp Fire child gives a lovingly crafted Valentine to a veteran who often is struggling with health problems related directly to his or her military service. Thanks to all who participate.

“Give Service” is the slogan of Camp Fire USA, and it is an honor for us to give service to those who have given our country the greatest service of all.

WoHeLo,

Jan Robinson, Interim Executive Director

Warm Hands, Warm Hearts

Many thanks to everyone who knitted and participated in Warm Hands Warm Hearts this year. Because of your efforts, we donated 102 Scarves, 26 Hats, 3 pairs of booties and several bags of clothing!  A big thank you to Cheryl Mengwasser and her older club members who led our two workshops. Great job everyone!

The drop off on January 18th went well. We had nine TIA youth and three adults come out. We took a tour of the facility, and after that, separated diapers according to sizes and hung up clothing that will be given out to the clients there. I was told by the Bridgette, who runs the resource center at Citizens Caring for Children, that we accomplished in one hour what would have taken one or two people all day to finish.
