What's your type?

Well, now there's an iPhone app that'll tell you just that.

No, we're not talking about your iPhone playing iCupid. We literally mean type - as in font.

WhatTheFont is a new iPhone app that will identify a font in seconds. Just take a pic of a poster, magazine ad, etc. and Voila!, Comic Sans it is. Yikes!!!

The fontheads at MyFonts are responsible for this awesomeness. So, WhatTheFont are you waiting for? Check out and download the WhatTheFont app right now!

Facebook Page or Group? Choose or Lose!

We're on Facebook a lot. Like all day a lot. And because we spend so much time using the social utility for the betterment of the Traction brand, as well as our clients', we've seen a pattern emerging that makes us want to cry like social media infants...

Local businesses don't seem to know when they should create a Page instead of a Group, or a Group instead of a Page!

And a ton are creating Profiles. Hello! Profiles are for individuals. That's just wrong.

We could tell you how to make the right choice, but we're too busy checking up on our Traction PAGE. Kidding! A really awesome advertising/blogging/social networking lass called Advergirl already laid down the law.

Head over to Advergirl's blog post that gives the word on whether you should FB-it Page or Group style.

Traction at the ADDYs

Traction at the ADDYs

The 43rd Annual ADDY® Awards Gala took place on February 14, 2009 at the Renaissance Hotel in Downtown OKC, and Traction had another strong showing.

In all, we stole away 11 pieces of ADDY flair. Of course, we'd take effective over award-winning any day, but it is kinda cool to see your name pop up over and over again on a giant screen in front of a room full of ad people.

Plus, it's always nice to be able show our clients that they are overseeing and okaying some quality marketing messages.

To see what we won, how we won 'em and who we won 'em for, click on over to our Traction at the 2009 ADDYs blog post.

Whew! Newb Nine's a Hit

Nearly every day for the first month of 2009, the big bay door at Warehouse 127 rose with the morning sun and lowered well after she had reached her destination in the West.

The reason for such long hours?

Traction was holding internal brainstorming and development sessions for a set of new services that would provide intelligent and effective marketing solutions for a downturn economy in an evolving advertising landscape.

Out of this, the Newb Nine were born.

The Newb Nine are supplemental, cost-effective (*cough* - cheaper than traditional - *cough*) marketing solutions for cost-conscious marketers trying to keep up with new marketing trends during an economic recession.

Basically, the Newb Nine is your "Whew!" in these trying times - and beyond. As a matter of fact, it already has been for more than a dozen businesses and organizations.

Just a month after releasing the Newb Nine into the world, we are already developing or running 30+ efforts representing each of the nine services.

Collectively, that's a pretty big "Whew!"

Here's our Newb Nine crew. Click on any one of them to get a closer look at the little buggers.

  • captUR™ - make sure you're the only one who can use your brand's name or username anywhere online.
  • Corkboard™ - cost-per-click, cost-per-impression, banner, text, etc. - the Internet is a corkboard just waiting for us to tack your brand to it.
  • DIG™ - Developing Identity from the Ground up - find out who your brand really is through DIG™ research and discovery.
  • MagneticMail™ - send beautifully customized, professional HTML emails quickly and easily.
  • nSite™ - receive scheduled reports on where you rank in search engines, why you're there, and gain the insight you need to climb the rankings.
  • Pfunnel™ - start the conversation with personalized direct mail efforts that send recipients to personalized websites. Smaller, targeted mailing lists, more interaction, greater ROI.
  • stalkr™ - know what's being said about your brand online and join the conversation to change the tune or fuel the fire. A brand is what the people say it is, after all.
  • TAP!social ™ - cultivate perpetually growing groups of loyal followers through social network channels, then engage them with giveaways, incentives or other activities that encourage brand interaction.
  • textUR™ - consumers are attached to their cell phones - so reach them there with permission-based mobile marketing messages and activities they'll be happy to accept and participate in.

Really, though. You should click on at least one of 'em - they're the best-looking marketing services you've ever seen.

Just the Tips

You have an online presence, and you want it to be awesome. Heck, we all do. It's BOTOX of the 21st Century.

As it turns out, awesomeness is fairly easy to obtain... as long as you follow some simple guidelines. But, all to often, we end up getting in our own way, ignoring the directions and tripping ourselves up.

So, here are 10 of our Top 30 Web Marketing words of wisdom that'll keep you from tripping. They're quick. They're simple. They're just the tips.

For all 30, head over to our blog post 30 Simple Web Marketing Tips.

  1. Keep sites as simple and clean as possible. Less is more. Beauty is in the ease of the navigator.

  2. Update often, but update with a purpose. Keep it interesting and relevant.

  3. Keep your site up-to-date and fresh, give users a legitimate reason to come back.

  4. If the page is dynamic, it needs a clear RSS option. If it's a blog, it needs a clear RSS option. If it's an aggregated feed, it needs a clear RSS option. When in doubt, give it an RSS option.

  5. To generate traffic - create a plan, stick to it and keep on keeping on.

  6. If you build it (and update it and make it relevant), they will come... eventually.

  7. Have realistic but lofty expectations. Bust your buttocks to reach them. Be elated when you surpass them.

  8. Don't just worry about looking flashy and pretty. If the content is good, it'll get RSS'ed and readers might not even make it to your site anyways.

  9. The best, most popular blogs/websites are always works in progress. So work and progress.

  10. Be real. Be you. Be honest. That's when people jump on board.
