A Farewell Note from Kim

As most of you know I lost my mom and dad within 11 days of each other this fall. That coupled with many other circumstances led me to make the difficult decision to tender my resignation to the executive board so that I can focus my time on their estate and grieve this tremendous loss. I have fond memories of my last two years at the Heart of Oklahoma Council, and I have met many wonderful, dedicated Camp Fire volunteers and members. I will cherish these memories and friendships for the rest of my life. I wish only the best for the council in the future and during its Centennial Celebration. I plan to stay in touch and be of help any way I can.

WoHeLo,

Kim Kamp Leslie

Program Tips - Piggybacking with "Sales and Sense"

The following are ideas to consider while working on the "Sales and Sense" project (located in your Leader Guide) in preparation of the upcoming candy sale.

If you are a Little Star or Starflight leader, you might want to consider the following which is located in your project/curriculum books under the 'Trail to Knowing Me':

  • Little Star & Starflight - Teaching safety while selling candy
  • Little Star - Safety - 'Stranger Danger'
  • K Trail - Safe & Secure - 'Don't Go With Strangers'
  • Trail Starter - Safety First - 'Say No and Don't Go'
  • Trail Exploration - Safety First - 'I Can Protect Myself'

If you are an Adventure leader, you might look at the following:

  • Adventure - Teaching good communication skills for working with candy customers (use portions of these projects)
  • Trail Seeker - Creative Communication
  • Wood Gatherer - Communicating with Everyone
  • Fire Maker - Communication

Adventure members and above can also piggyback earning beads with the Sales & Sense emblem. Look under 'Money Matters' in the Bead Book under the Trail to Knowing Me and the Trail to Family and Community.

Don't forget to be working on your Centennial Project!
Here's some suggestions for December:

  • Make 100 Christmas stockings for low income families in December. Clubs can purchase or get donations for Chapstick, hairbrushes, socks and other stuffers for the Christmas stockings. Also, hotels or dollar stores might be willing to donate toothbrushes and small sized toothpaste, shampoo & hand lotion. You could even buy a pair of real socks and stuff one of each pair for a child instead of a decorated stocking.
  • Donate 100 pairs of mittens or gloves to children at a battered woman's shelter or any other shelter.

If you have any questions, please email Susan at susanw@campfireusa-ok.org or call (405) 478-5646.
