Trippin' over Tryptophan
Chances are sometime in the next few days you're going to stuff your belly full of Turkey, flip on the game and conk out on your in-laws' couch. And when you wake up three hours later in a puddle of cranberry-hued drool, you'll probably consider blaming it on the natural sedative in Ol' Tom's drumsticks.
Unfortunately, this excuse is as fallacious as that time last year when you told your nephew he would contract Tuberculosis if he at the last piece of pecan pie. Chronic chest pain never tasted so good.
Actually, turkey does contain high levels of Tryptophan, an amino acid and natural sedative, but the amount is comparable to that contained in most meats.
So that conversation with Uncle Henry about the Great Greenbean Casserole Crisis of '36 is probably the real reason for your slumber.
And when they wonder where the cranberry-hued ring on that hideously overpriced (or is it just plain hideous?) throw pillow came from, distract them with the information you just read.

SMS. Mmmm, sounds good.
Bob recently opened the first healthy fast-food joint in town, and it's all the rave with the 18-34 crowd. It's busy everyday from the time the doors open to 30-minutes after they close. You say, Lucky Bob. We say, Smart Bob.
You see, Bob has his finger on his customer base. Literally. Not only does he understand that his target audience is super-mobile and super-connected, he knows how to reach them - via a medium that necessitates 2-way interaction, and is reserved only for those whom they trust and deem worthy...
...Their cell phones.
As often as he wants, Bob sends out Shortcode SMS messages, aka text messages, to his customers offering them free or discounted menu items if they just reply to his message with a specific keyword. Once they do, they receive a digital coupon they can redeem simply by flashing their phone to the cashier at Bob's restaurant.
He can't keep people out of his restaurant. But what's most remarkable about this is the turnaround time.
Like the time Bob was leaving town for a weekend excursion with his family and he noticed Ned's not-so-healthy fast-food joint was offering a free clogged artery with the purchase of a jumbo cola. From his phone, right then and there, Bob sent out a counter-text to his customers that looked something like this:
"Cholesterol is bad. TXT 'IluvBob's' to ****** for a free healthy sandwich you won't regret."
The restaurant was busy for an hour after the doors closed that day. And Bob was already enjoying a relaxing weekend with his family.
Of course, this being a hypothetical story and all, Traction Marketing Group advised Bob that he needed mobile marketing in the first place, and then showed him exactly how to leverage it.
So, why should you let Traction turn you into a real-life Bob? Here are 5 of the Top 10 reasons you should be utilzing mobile marketing for your brand.
- Reach
- Acceptance
- Prevalence
- Affordability
- Response
For the full list and for a breakdown of Traction's sms capabilities, head on over to Traction's recent blog post - You Need Mobile Marketing. Traction Can Help.

Traction Gets Schooled
Traction is heading back to school. And we find this ironic, considering a few of us chose a career in advertising just so we could get the heck out of school.
Regardless, we are a learned lot around here. Combine that with our experience, creativity and laid-back attitude, and it's easy to see why OSU-OKC chose Traction to lead the university on a new creative expedition.
We're so excited to give the OSU-OKC communications team a hand developing their brand image, establishing graphic standards, and creating academic excitement it's like we're attending our first day of school all over again.
Chances are this won't lead to any MBA's or Ph.D's for us, but that's quite alright because we're content just showing others that they can get there if they try. And for those of you who consider yourself scholars .... jobs@tractionokc.com.
